Notice: Increased Disk Space Requirements in UISP3

With UISP3, disk space requirements have changed. After upgrading, the application performs a database migration, which temporarily requires additional space. This extra usage is reduced once the migration is complete. Additionally, backups now store detailed statistics for the last week, so the overall space used may be approximately twice that of UISP 2.4. Please note that the 40 GB minimum applies only to small setups, and actual needs depend on the number and type of devices in your network.

Statistics Data & Backup

UISP 3.0 introduces a new engine for storing statistics data, designed to improve performance and stability. After upgrading from UISP 2.x, statistics are automatically migrated in the background. During this process, higher CPU load is expected and some statistics may be temporarily unavailable. An information bar will indicate the current migration progress.

Additionally, UISP now includes one week of detailed statistics in its backups, making backup files approximately twice the size compared to UISP 2.4. The key benefit is that these detailed statistics are immediately available after a backup restoration.

Known issues

UISP Console Performance Issue

We have identified that the Map view in the UISP application is one of several potential causes of performance issues where the CPU load spikes to 100%. This overload can result in devices struggling to connect, periodical disconnections, and, in some cases, the UISP application crashing.

While the Map view is a noticeable trigger, the issue may also stem from other, less apparent factors. Rebooting the application often provides a temporary solution.

We are actively working on a permanent resolution. Thank you for your patience and understanding as we address this matter.

We recently addressed an issue with the Geomagnetism module that affected all UISP versions by releasing a hotfix in version 2.4.155. Today, we are continuing this effort by releasing version 2.4.156, which includes the same hotfix to ensure broader coverage and stability.

This version is available only for self-hosted instances and the UISP Console.

Known issues

We've identified an issue with the Geomagnetism module in this UISP version. The fastest way to hotfix the issue was to update the UISP version 2.4.155 installation files. Here are guides on how to apply the fix on each UISP platform.

UISP Cloud: We are actively handling the issue. No user action is required.

Self-hosted: Pease run curl -fsSL https://unms.com/v1/install > /tmp/unms_inst.sh && sudo bash /tmp/unms_inst.sh --update --version 2.4.155.

UISP Console with SSH access: SSH into the device's CLI and run /mnt/ssd/unms/app/unms-cli update.

UISP Console without SSH access:

• Ensure you have a backup of your UISP Console application on your SD card (note that the SD card uses the ext4 filesystem).
• To avoid the "hostname already in use" error, ensure you're signed into the UISP mobile app with the same UI account that created the hostname.
• Make sure your UISP mobile app is up-to-date.
• Perform a factory reset of the device. Hold the reset button until the port LEDs light up sequentially, starting with the first port and ending with the fifth. This will erase all data, so having a backup is essential.
• Use the UISP mobile app to complete the initial setup wizard.
• When the firmware upgrade is offered, update your UISP Console to the latest stable version 5.2.0. This is a crucial step to avoid the infinite preparing status.
• When prompted for a hostname, use the same one as before.
• Restore the backup from the SD card or upload the backup file from an external file system, then restore it via the UISP GUI.
• If the process doesn't work the first time, please try again. It should work on the second attempt.

UISP Application 2.4.153 is a new version aimed at stabilizing and improving the previous stable version 2.4.143.

The Devices view has been completely reworked and now the configuration of the width and column order. The density of the Devices view is now also changeable and it is possible to multi-select devices to perform actions on them simultaneously.

Local Web Interface Remote Access

This new feature allows you to remotely access the local web interface of a device connected to UISP. The support is currently limited to

Known issues

• We are aware of performance issues on the wireless device detail screens. The fix is already in the works.
• In some scenarios, airMAX devices that are using PPPoE will show an incorrect IP address.
• Some stations can show a button for FW upgrade, which throws an error when used. Those devices can be upgraded by changing the FW on their AP, but we are also working on a fix for individual upgrades.
